Asian Update

Ugh to the new AOL picture show.  I added captions...where are they?  I've been so lost in the shuffle of this week's events that I missed a couple of updates.  Today the group is on their way to Japan.  Next Saturday Megan will be home.  Where did the time go.  LOL at Japan...Megan loves Hello Kitty and San Rio stuff which is created in Japan.  I hear the checkbook bouncing.

So, the pictures are a hodge podge of the updates.  If I weren't so lazy, I'd post them separately.  Dang, AOL and the captions.  Why do they have a space for them if they don't function????

Today is our last day in Beijing, and it's a free day for everyone until 5:30. Most people are going shopping. Dr. Marlin is going to the museum of the revolution, and I'm going to visit another logistics company with one of the Chinese professors. Tonight we are having our big farewell dinner feast at a revolving rooftop restaurant, and tomorrow we leave for the airport around 11am.
Look for more posts from Japan!

In the morning we went to the Summer Palace, which most of us agree was the best thing that we've seen in Beijing. The place was gigantic, and most of us were exhausted after wandering around and scaling staircase after staircase to see the different parts of the palace.

Tiannamen Square is the open air picture above.  The summer palace is the group in front of the Chinese building.  The summer palace is also viewed from across a bay or some sort of body of water.  The panda is from a trip to the Beijing Zoo.

After class in the morning yesterday, we spent the afternoon in Tiannamen Square and the Forbidden City. You may recall the famous footage of protests in Tiannamen Square from 1989; we saw the exact location where that single student stood in front of the tank. This is also the area where Chairman Mao's mausoleum can be found, but we had a "Wally World" moment when we found out that it was closed for renovations until September.

In the evening we all succumbed to our desire for American food and took a trip outto the Hard Rock Cafe. It happened to be "Retro Night," and there was a live band that belted out "classics" all night. Any band that starts the evening with "I'm All out of Love" by Air Supply is all right in my book!

LOL..me thinks the professor is showing his age. So, anyway, moving on past the grief of the week.

Just wanted to let all of you know that snagging is not against any laws.  The most that would happen would be having to remove the snag.

All of us that do PSP are at risk if we are not licensed which is becoming more and more evident daily.  More artists are joining the various gilds and requiring licensing.  All artists copyright their work; just not all are requiring us to purchase their work yet but I do think soon it will happen.  All hobbies cost money.  PSP will also.  I know it's hard for those of you who don't do PSP to understand but it's about artists being compensated for their artwork.  It's hard for those of us doing it for fun and not profit to shell out bucks for stuff we are just donating.  I'm just beginning to recognize the various artists' work.  Just giving credit is not enough.  Such is life, I suppose.  So do I continue to look over my shoulder or just bite the bullet and shell out bucks for each tube I want.  These are issues all taggers in AOL will be facing....anyway...HUGS to all!  I'm very behind on my alerts and hope to catch up this weekend.  CHRIS

It is very sad that people are getting so pernickety about their copyright. Nobody is making any money out of posting tags & snags on their journal - I think. Have a good weekend.

Chris, I love Hello Kitty too, Hugs Lisa

Hugs Chris... there is another option for pictures.. and it is the old way with captions there.  I don't do pictures that way so I didn't pay much attention but Joe has it on his journal.  Good Luck!   These look great tho
Agreed on the graphics... as you well know.

If you click in the text & add then they are in the body of the text & not the picture show & then maybe your captions will appear?

Hi Chris loved this posting about Megan.Very interesting following her along with yourself. Some of the graphics if you click on them open seperately and the caption appears,But most j/land members like myself, feel this is such a slow method and when following travel journals especially.Takes one almost all night to look at many pics Grrrrrrrrr.Thankyou for you lovely comment you sent me.I do so much appreciate every one.I do not understand realy all this jargon about copyrights, but what I do know is all of you worksso hard and I try to share your work ou tin my journal to let others see how talented you all are.I have people not in J/Land who follow my journal and so much praise comes to me through E, mails on all your fabulous work.Money is the route of all evil so they say and today it is all about greed.I wish you luck with your work all of you and hope it doesn't become expence as everything seems to today Grrrrrrr.Take Care Chris I simply love the graphic at the end of your post today it is so beautiful. One that realy appeals to me for some unknown reason I just love it.Maybe it's the colour sand the iris's a flower I do love.Take Care God Bless Kath

I loved the pics! Yes, I hate about the captions not being there too, Joe has a recent post about it.
I've only been dabbling in PSP for less than a year, I mostly just tag, but have made some graphics...most I never put a logo on or copyrighted. But I don't care, I do it for fun. I get all my tubes & other things through my PSP groups.
I just hope it all gets straightened out soon & all gets back to normal.
Have a wonderful wkend.
Hugs,
Sugar

Hi Chris. I love the pictures you share with us of Megan's once in a lifetime adventure! Such beautiful places she gets to see. I loved the one with the boat in it! Check out that boat! It even has a chinese style rooftop on it LOL!
I was unable to tell which one was Megan in the group shots, though. I was really looking, and I think I found her but was unable to be sure. Maybe later you can tell us when we are 'allowed' to add captions.
I'm drinking all of the stories of her trip in! I love the fact that she was able to do this trip. I'd love to send my son on a trip like that! Maybe I will!
I'm so glad she got well and didn't have to tolerate being sick on top of her trip.
As far as PSP...well....it discusts me that Donna has quit.  Don't YOU go quitting now!  But, if you did, I'd understand. But, I would hope you'd still write to us in your journal.
You're my buddy...you better not disappear!
Love to you...and give Becky a hug for me today. ok?
Pam

That's right Chris, with the new way the pics are displayed, you are no longer allowed to add captions.  They only go into slide shows, and no captions are allowed to be added!  Joe journalseditor didn't know that was the way it was going to be until after the release was made, and so he only told us after the fact.  He is trying to work on it with the big wigs to get it changed (to give us more options besides the slide show option).  I hope there is a return to something you like. :)

I make all tags just for fun.  If it comes down to the point that I could get in trouble for using something of someone elses in one of my tags, that's when I stop.  I'm not getting caught up in all this copyright crap.  I will continue to make what I want using what I want.  As long as I'm not using for profit, I don't need a copyright. Enough said on that issue.  Hope your having a good day.

It's such a shame that things are coming this way with regards to PSP, we've already lost one graphics journal I sure hope we don't lose anymore :(

The pictures are going to return to the normal ones in the next few days, I'm waiting till then to do my next entry! I love Megan's pics and I recognise the places she went to! The lake at the Summer Palace is called Kunming Lake, it was frozen when I went there, I hope it's warmed up for Megan! I don't think you should have to pay for the PSP stuff as you aren't selling it on. It just doesn't seem fair that you should have to be out of pocket to make graphics for fun. Have a good week and I hope Megan likes Japan! Jeannette xx

Hi, Shelley!   wow,  what an exciting time for your daughter to be traveling and seeing the Orient.   I just discovered the new AOL Photo feature..by accident..I usually don't load photos this way but I was looking at an older entry and by gosh...all my older entries now have the fading photo feature in them...that's better than the photos dissappearing ...I can't believe I've been doing this since 2005.   I think AOL will fix the text thing..eventually.   Take a rest and have some fun!   I love your tags and hope you keep them up!  i'm so far behind in my entries but will hopefully catch up this week......Maria

Wantad to read what Megan is doing on her Asian trip with photos yet.  Am trying to understand all the difficulties involved with graphics. I have shied away from trying to get compensated, for example, for every piece of writing I do.  The upshot of that would be that nobody would see my work.  It sounds like too many people are trying to get compensated for work that there is not enough of a paying clientele for. Demand cannot be forced.  Sounds like some graphic artists want everyone to demand compensation, thinking that will solve the problem  I do not believe it will.  As it is, I like forming an alliance with a graphic artist where I contribue the poem free of charge and they contribute the graphic.  That way we both benefit.  But I have been to some journals where a poem is heavily guarded with copywrite signs.  I think there are thousands of poets out there.  I find copywrite signs a little daunting over a poem that does not seem that extraordinary.  The extraordinary comes I think when artists, poets and readers come together to enjoy.  Gerry
