Not so Random Thoughts & SNAGS

Hunh, try again....I actually lost an entry before I could save it.  I'm tired but I'll try again.

I took the pooch for a walk in the meantime because I was frustrated at AOL.

I've been a bit worried about what my BF would do once he got home.  He didn't get out today.  Maybe tomorrow or Tuesday.  The caseworker said he should have someone 24 hrs a day with him for at least 2 weeks, preferably a month.  His insurance will pay for someone to be there in the daytime to cook, clean, do laundry, etc.  I'm going to go after work and stay the night for a week or 2 and see; maybe a month.  We decided this tonight.

Today was a bad one to begin with.  Meg and I went to the hospital around 11 am.  I knew something was wrong.  My BF became very distraught and started crying.  I pushed Meg out of the room and asked him if he was depressed.  That is quite common after open heart.  No.  He said he was in unbearable pain.  The night nurse was giving him Tylenol because she said he would become addicted to the Percocet.  WTH????  3 days after open heart surgery?

I flew out of the room looking for a nurse, any nurse.  I grabbed one almost literally and asked what was going on.  She was shocked because the orders were for one Percocet every 6 hrs or 2 lesser dosages every 3 hrs.  The night nurse had, indeed, taken it upon herself to give him plain old OTC Tylenol since 5 pm the evening before.  This nurse peeked into his room and saw that he was beside himself crying.  I've never seen him cry ever.  I've seen tears well up but not like this.

She immediately gave him a Percocet.  Within a half hour, he was much better.  Meg and I went on a shopping spree at Target.  I had a 10% off coupon.  We stopped at Dairy Queen to pick up Joey's birthday cake.  He turned 25 on Friday.  We made shish kebobs on the grill.  My BF called while we were at Target and sounded sooooo much better.

I stopped in after dinner.  The day nurse called the surgeon who came into talk with him.  He is not depressed.  He was in unbearable pain.  The night nurse was way off base.  The doctor explained to my BF that he needs the Percocet for a while.  It will be tapered as he heals.  He is also in a private room because his other room was too hot.  He laid in sweat last night, soaked.  The night nurse never changed his bedding or his clothes.  The surgeon was appalled.  It also explains why he had been refusing to eat.  He was out of his mind in pain.  He ate a huge lean hamburger for dinner with carrots and chicken noodle soup.

So, all is well for now.  My BF is not used to needing an advocate and was very surprised at how forceful I can be.  LOL...he's just never witnessed it because he's never needed to.

I'm posting some pics of my hair.  It's sort of greasy looking coz I have to wait 48 hrs to shampoo it to let the color set.  Not crazy about the bottom one either but I do love the colors.

A couple of snags below and off I go to get ready for another week.....Hugs to all!   CHRIS

That was plain evil not to give him pain meds after open heart surgery. Danny was on Morphine and sometimes that was not enough...and he did not need to lay in his own sweat..that could give him pneumonia! I would report that nurse to the hospital ceo.
love ya,
carlene

I do hope that Dr said something to the nurse.  How dare she go over the Doc's head and not give the prescribed meds.  I'd be livid and contacting the hospital in a heart beat.   I love you hair!!!!!   Have a better day tomorrow and know I'm sending good vibes
love ya

so glad you were there to get things going in the right direction for him and that he was doing better once he got the treatment he should have gotten; poor guy!!!

Oh my! So sorry about your BF. Sure glad he is feeling better now.  Will keep him in my prayers.  My step dad kept complaining about his leg hurting after brain surgery. Finally someone listened and he had blood clots in his lungs and leg. My step dad has gone through things like this and it is terrible. Terry Ann talked me into getting my hair highlighted and have been doing that now for a year. lol She took me on Mother's Day because I was out of style. lmbo Like the colors in your hair. Many blessings, Janie

Your BF's nursing staff was SO off base. In all hospitals I thought making sure the patient was not it paing was one of the first things they were suposed to find out. On a 1-10 basis. My husband would NEVER ask for pain meds until it got unbearable. I think I finally pounded it into his head to ASK at least 30 min (with his nurses) before it was time for his pain medication and get it whether he was in severe pain. NOT to let the pain get out of control because it's harder to to get relieft.  I am sure you know all this. I am SO glad you went out and got his relief for him. I've had to do it more than once. Having chronic pain and taking meds every day I know how it is. Sometimes when I'm not hurting bad, I'll skip my medicine and then when it's time for it again, I''m hurting worse than usual. I should know better. LOL
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your hair. Almost makes me want to dye mine back to it's normal color...except I don't really know what that is. LMAO. I do love it and the cut. I can't wear my hair short. Round face. Hair thin a spiderwebs almost. LOL
Hope you have a good week.
Love ya, Barb
PS THANKS for the snags.

first of all, I LOVE the new cut and color! I hve been thinking of doing something very similar!!!!  is it hard for you to fix everyday???

Now, for the BF...seriously, you/he needs to file a formal complaint about that freaking nurse!  The dr PROBABLY addressed it.. But you still need to follow up with a complaint yourselves.....  Nurses have a lot of responsibility, more so now than ever.  But they are not doctors and some can get confused about that.  she needs a good ol write-up to ground her butt....
take care and have a wonderful week...
p.s. Ilove your beginning graphic!

Sounds like that nurse was way off base. She souldn't change any meds without the dr's writting the instructions down to do so. When anyone is in great pain they should be given whatever it takes to combat it. I like your hair color and the graphic. I hope your BF gets well enough to come home soon.  Helen

Happy Birthday to Joey! Your hair looks great! It's really sad when you find a loved one isn't getting the care they need in the hospital. It sounds to me like it wasn't just his night nurse neglecting him, his day nurse should have noticed how much pain he was in. I'm glad you were there to get things rolling in the right direction and his pain has been eased.

Your hair looks great. So sorry about your BF and so happy you were there for him to yank some chains around that place. Poor guy I couldn't even imagine the pain. My mother always told me the breast bone hurts for years to come. I'm glad you will be able to help him when he gets home. I think they kick people out of the hospital to soon anymore, but if he's like me I could never sleep in the hospital I would rather be at home in my own bed. Happy Birthday to Joey yummo a DQ cake.
Take care and Hugs, Chrissie

Cute tags. :)
Love your hair. {{}}
Girl, you go to the hosp administrastor NOW, & tell her/him what happened! That is not to be tolerated!!!
No telling how many patients this nurse does that to! She needs to lose her job. Tell them that! Be consistant!
Write a letter to the board, if you get no results. GRRR
I'm furious! GRRR Find out that nurses' name & take action.
Hugs,
Sugar

That nurse was way out of line and should have been diciplined!  Someone who has had their chest cut open definately needs more than Tylenol!  Geez!  Nice hair, I like it... Linda

I can't believe the night nurse pulled that! Sound almost as bad as what my daughter went through with nurses at the hospital.  I will continue to keep Joey in my prayers on the smoke.

I'm loving your hair, the color is fantastic. (Hugs)Indigo

I hope someone talked to that nurse and set her straight!  Your hair looks marvelous!

I really like the haircut....color, too.   Wish I had the nerve to cut my hair like that, but I just this year got it cut to above my shoulders, the first time since 7th grade.....a half-million years ago.
That night nurse has some nerve, doesn't she?

Chris~you look beautiful!  It's wonderful to have an advocate, especially where doctors, nurses and hospitals are concerned.  Your BF is fortunate to have you in his life.  I'll be praying for both of you.  I love the graphics and will snag them right after my (2nd) new hard drive is in.  Blessings, Penny  http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/FromHeretoThere

I don't know why some nurses do that! Percocet is not that addictive...not like morphine which is an opiate, and that takes months.  It's ignorance on the nurse's part, says nurse Bethe.  It's only Percocet! And for god's sake they cut thru his sternum.  It's a "broken bone", the man has to breath so it's gonna hurt!  Ugh!! Makes me angry, too!   Good for you being the advovcate.
Love your highlights Chris, it looks great. ((hugs))  Bethe

I'm glad you were there to help your b/f... that was terrible what that nurse took upon herself to do!  I hope she gets the what for in her handling of him.  When I did home health I'd hear all kinds of stories from patients recovering from OHS...it is dreadfully painful! and yes, a few did get depressed ~ it was strange the patients that did get depressed were 80% male!  hmmmmm wonder why that was? or is... your hair color is great! love it :) thank you so much for the snags. Blessings for you and yours*** Teresa

your hair is gorgeous, as are you. Truly.
I am totally pissed that BF was denied pain meds. I think honestly that is against the law in hospitals......they HAVE to medicate you to make sure you have no life threatening pain. Poor guy!
i love you

Anonymous said...

Your poor BF...I would have been so pissed at that nurse!  I hope she got a stern talking to or even into some kind of trouble for her actions...that was so uncalled for...so glad you were there and got things handled the way they should be.

I LOVE your hair and the colors...you look great Chris!

Hugs

LOVE, LOVE the the cut and the color!!  Looks great, Chris!!  All those blends of color are awesome!  Who says we have to go all gray and short, and OLD at 55???  Not we!  We are the ever young at heart baby boomers!! lol

It would not surprise me (being as I work in an ER and all) if that nurse wasn't pocketing those Percocents for herself!  It happens all the time!  How dare she make a decision like that, when the doctors ORDERS were for him to have his Percocet!  That is just wrong!  She needs to be (and hopefully was) reprimended and maybe even drug tested for her behavior!  Just knowing that she didn't give him his (as needed) meds, and then left him to swelter in sweat soaked sheets just makes me wonder, ya know?  I'm just saying....... :/

Hope he is on the road to recovery and feels better soon, Chris!

Love you
Jackie

That nurse needs a reprimand, or needs to be fired! She had no right to do that. REgarding the hair... awesome. I should have taken some shots of my new color last month, but didn't think about it. I added some reddish lowlights and blondish highlights... at first I thought I looked punkish, but everyone at school liked it, and now I'm used to it. You look fabulous! bea
