SMOBER! and SNAGS

Smober is Shelly, Roxymama's, journal for smoking sober, which means no more smoking.  Well, folks, I've been smober for 21 hrs.

Joey has asthma and is on two different inhalers.  He is finishing day #9 of being smober.  We are both using the new drug Chantix although I must say it is working far better for him than me.  It's very weird....I don't have many urges to smoke because this drug blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain which cause the cravings.  What I do have are some pretty severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms because the nicotine is leaving my body even though I really don't have an urge to smoke.

I'm not sure I'm happy with feeling crazy again.  I haven't been there for so many years.  I'm fighting anxiety, depression, trouble concentrating, and headaches but have to focus on the end results.

My son says I won't last more than a day or two.  I will prove him wrong.

HUGS  CHRIS

I hope the drug works Chris, I know how hard it is to give up smoking, I've tried lots of times but I was so bad last time with my blood pressure going up and breathing difficulties my doctor told me to start smoking again! Didn't need telling twice! I hope your symptoms go soon. Thanks for the snags, I love them all! Jeannette xx  http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/

Smober!  Love that one.  Keep up the positive attitude.  This will be one of the hardest things you will ever have to do, but the reward is well worth it.  :)

My husband quit smoking about 24 years ago... he went the self-hypnosis route, and I remember him practicing the self-hypnosis every day for a couple of weeks. He quit entirely, and I do recall that when he had to be in the presence of other smokers, that was the hardest time for him, but he never went back to smoking. You made the right choice... hang in there, lady! bea

I know I'm late on this, but I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you for quitting smoking. I've never smoked (unless you count the two days in college that I smoked I think 3 cigerettes and gagged through them the whole time). Anyways...my parents do and I was always sick growing up, severe colds and every winter bronchitis. After Jordyn (our daughter) was dx with AML leukemia and I found out that 2nd hand smoke (while pg even) was a possible cause I forbid everyone from ever smoking around her and since she died and had other children them, as well as me.

I know it's hard right now, but once you're done you're going to feel so great and think of all the extra money you'll have! I had a teacher once he and his wife put aside the money they'd have spent on cigerettes for 1 year and went on a 4 week vacation!

I'm praying for you and know you can get through this!

God Bless
Christy

Oh gosh, I love that word "smober".  I have been trying to quit smoking for sometime.  I need to check out her journal.  I have never heard of Chantix.  Interesting.  I wish you luck on your endeavor to quit, hon.  I know how hard it is.  I have quit before.  I need to again.  Wish me luck, too!  Hugs, Val xox'

See I missed this entry. Never hear of the Chantix, but sounds like it's doing it's trick. I know the withdrawal is hell, but hang in.
Love ya and I've gotta go give Shelly some encouragement too.
Love and hugs, Barb

Congatulation on an attempt to quit smoking.  At my age we see a lot of the fallout from smoking into old age.  My brother-in-law Tom is going through so much misery with his clogged leg arteries.  I do want to give you encouragement.  My son Raymond is doing well this time and he is quitting, too, because of allergy misery which combined with smoking is not good.  I will have to tell him about being smober  I had such trouble with cravings for bad food, but on the vegan diet I don't have those cravings.  I notice my thighs are not as fat.  I notice good signs every day.  It has been so worth it to change a life style.  Even my skin is better I dont know why.  I laugh at you being disgruntled over your BF working.  He ought to know better.  When my older BFs keep talking about going back to work to make a bunch of money, I discourage them as much as possible!  Gerry
