Asia Bound

Megan's nickname is Baby.  Her SN is Baby.  She is my baby.  She's been to France twice.  She went when she was 16 and again 17.  No matter what has happened recently, Megan is my sunshine child.  She was always happy and smiling.  Her face was an open book.  She never lied; couldn't lie because her eyes would give her away.

Basically, she is still that smiling child; full of adventure and a zest for life.  She had a teeny little suitcase when she was small that was always ready to be packed if anybody invited her anywhere.  A traveler she has always been.

She was up all night packing and getting ready.  When we were entering the ramp to the airport, she was beaming with total excitement.  Somehow, this mama's heart was sinking.  Dang, didn't expect that to happen.

She got her ticket, had her passport scanned, suitcase weighed (41.9 lbs.  lol...she knew it was under 50) and off she went to go through security which means mom had to say goodbye.  Well, see ya later.  I took a couple of pictures on my phone which I will try to upload later.  10 minutes and off she went to her gate leaving mama standing behind.....lost.  I just wasn't expecting to feel this way.

Sure, she will be 21 in a month but she looked like a little kid to me.  She was meeting her group at the gate, and I just stood there like a fool; wanting to grab her back.  She should be able to e-mail from different universities that they are visiting.  She did call from O'Hare because I had a password assigned to her bank account when I used to have to check the balance by phone.  She was trying to transfer some funds by phone and didn't know the password.

Wonder why it's so different when they travel halfway across the world?  I rarely talk to her more than once a week when she's at school.  Ugh....now, I can't wait until she gets home.

HUGS!!!  Chris

Beautiful tag you made. I think no matter what age they are, they are still our babies. Maybe it's the independence, or the feeling that you aren't needed on this adventure that's making you sad.
I hope she has a safe and FUN trip!
Hugs, Pam

I don't think the feelings of giving them their independence is ever easy.  I know your proud of her and I am sure she feels the same - It's time to spread those wings and she'll be home before you know it!  Have a fun weekend!

Chris,
Megan and my son, Nathan are the same age.  Nathan has been to Japan twice. Once in middle school for 2 weeks and than again in High School for 6 weeks. Japanese is his second language.  I know what you are feeling.  I also know the joy when they return.  I know she is going to have a great time.  It is going to be a wonderful experience.
Smiles,
David

Breathtaking tag.  I know exactly what you mean.  Mine are 25,29, & 33 and I think they will always be  my babies. LOL Hope Megan has a great trip.  Letting my 3 go off to the military, esp our daughter was my hardest "lettting go" moment.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs, Barb

(Hugs) In a few days you will still be missing her, but sighing a sign of relief for the peace and quiet that is well earned and deserved. I get to see my daughter maybe once a month anymore and each time we leave I can't stop hugging her enough. But I know she has her wings and needs to try flying solo for a time. Loving you!!(Hugs) Indigo

I love your Asian tag. I don't think we ever really feel comfortable when our children go that far away. Since yours is a Traveler, you may as well get used to it. Can we trust the world with our children? We really don't have a choice, unless we choose to keep them locked up in our homes. Despite the few rare things that could go wrong, there are a multitude of things that can go right. Three cheers for your daughter. Stay in touch with your baby, and pray for her safe passage. I will pray for her safe journey as well. Bea

I hate seeing my children leave and when my oldest moved 1000 miles away my heart broke.   Soon she will be back and fill you in on all her fun and excitement.  Take care

I know I'd have the jittrs if it was my daughter taking a plane to Asia  My daughter has always been a traveler, too.  She somehow managed to fly to Mexico City when she was in college and during one summer she spent several weeks staying with a friend somewhere in Mexico.  They went mainly to practice their Spanish which she now speaks very well.  (sounds good to me)  She has so much confidence speakng a foreign language  With nursing she will really be able to use it  Megan sounds like a very fun daughter.  I do hope she has a safe trip.  Gerry

Ahhh well, it is the illusion that her being 'closer' means 'safer' and within your control, my sweet fellow mama.  Yes, I haven't had to face this yet... but it will be happening to me too.  Hang in there... prayers coming for you to make it thru this my friend.

be well,
Dawn

I understand fully how you feel, Chris. My daughter has been to Germany, all by herself, several times.... starting when she was only 14. I can't say it ever got easier to say good bye at the airport, more often she flew. - I was living for her return and still remember the loving and relieved feeling I had when I welcomed her back into my arms. - You know, now we are 1600 miles apart and who knows for how long?
- I will keep Megan in my thoughts and prayers. She surely sounds like a very adventures and strong daughter - I hope the time will go by fast for you to see her again. Then she will have lots to tell and you too will be able to "travel" and if it is just in your thoughts. Take care my friend. Hugs, Maria
